Thai cinema takes us into another world - almost literally in the case of this distinctive film. It's a subtle, moving exploration of the nature of human mortality, as Uncle Boonmee (who is terminally ill) prepares for his death. But - and this is what makes this film so remarkable - the way in which the spirit and natural worlds interact with the human world signifies an optimistic view that life is not finite.
