FAQs – Lincoln Film Society

Where does the Society meet and when does the film start?

The Society meets at The Venue, Bishop Grosseteste University College, Longdales Road, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, LN1 3DY. The Society normally opens its doors at 6.45pm unless otherwise stated. All films begin at 7.30pm, unless otherwise stated. Non-members are admitted to most screenings. Whenever there is a ‘members only’ event, the programme or website will make this clear.

Does the film actually start at 7.30pm or are there adverts/trailers?

No adverts or trailers are shown. Our Chairman usually makes any relevant announcements before the start of the film. We also draw our very popular raffle just before the start of the film.

Where can I park?

Free parking is available next to The Venue.

What sort of films will be shown?

We publish a set programme for each season. Film selection is based on member’s suggestions and research by the Society’s committee. The ‘programme’ will not be too specialist because our members have a wide taste in movies. Over and above the published programme, the club may screen other films if there is evidence of a demand. As a film society, we aim to make a wide variety of films available but we need membership support to do so.

How can I suggest a film to be shown?

Tell the committee! You can use our contact page (which includes a phone number), or you can get in touch personally at any screening, or by leaving a note on the suggestion page around the end of March. Use Twitter and Facebook.

How is the average score for each film calculated?

Feedback slips are provided at each film showing. The members can rate the film as:

5 = Excellent (100); 4 = Good (75); 3 = Average (50); 2 = Disappointing (25); 1 = Poor (0)

The average score is then calculated.

How big is the screen?

The screen is 7m x 2.98m.

What are the seats like?

The auditorium has a capacity of 230 on a fixed rake seating, which gives excellent visibility. All the seats have been fully modernised in the latest refurbishment.

Are there any refreshments available?

Yes. There is a fully licensed bar serving wine, beer and soft drinks once the doors are open and after the film.

Can I bring my own food and drink with me?

Yes you can, but please think about others when purchasing, i.e. save the crisps and noisy sweets for home.

Can I take drinks into the auditorium?

Yes. If you have a drink from the bar, please ask for a plastic glass. All we ask is that you remove your own rubbish when you leave.

How do I become a member?

Head over to our membership page for full details.

Can I just come along?

You are welcome to join as a Guest/day member. Although, seats are only available to guests after 7.20pm.

What are the advantages of membership?

You save money! We do of course allow admittance to guest members but they pay more for each film they attend. Therefore, over the year, you can save money by being a full member. Also, a vibrant membership helps demonstrate the club’s worth within the community.

What are you going to do with my email address?

We will only use your email address to send you the LFS newsletter and your membership application.

What are you going to do with my personal details?

Your personal details will only be used for analytical purposes by the Society to help us develop the Society. They will not be passed on to a third party.

Are you registered with The Data Protection Act?

No. Therefore if any member prefers for the Club not to hold their postal or email addresses then we shall not. We undertake never to pass on your details to any third party.

Can I join the committee?

Members of the committee are usually elected at the AGM. Please ask for details.

Is there an AGM?

The AGM is held each year in the auditorium after one of the films. Please see the programme for details.

Is there disabled access?

Wheelchair Access

Yes. A disabled parking bay is situated at the theatre entrance. There are four wheelchair spaces in The Venue. Access is from the level pathway leading from the main entrance to the side theatre door (committee will provide assistance). The lavatory is located in the foyer and has also been recently refurbished.

Can I bring children?

Children are welcome, provided they are accompanied by a responsible adult and the film certificate permits their entry.
